Anticipating Change with Strategic Foresight
Trade Union for Art and Culture Professionals TAKU is on a mission to develop working life in art and culture, make the fields more appreciated, and advocate for the good of the sector. In 2024, Framtid’s Satu Wahlberg planned and facilitated a foresight workshop for the board of TAKU to understand the future of work and how should those be tackled.
The Future of Work – Trend Implication Analysis and Futures Triangle Exercise
The Trade Union for Art and Culture Professionals (TAKU) sought to gain insights into the trends shaping the future of work and to determine how the union could evolve to better support its members.
Framtid developed and facilitated a collaborative futures workshop for TAKU’s board and staff. During the workshop, participants analyzed work trends from various perspectives: the future of work, the future of the workforce, the future of the workplace, and the future of business models affecting creative field.
Key trends were synthesized into a future vision for TAKU in 2034. To explore pathways to achieving this vision, participants engaged in a futures triangle exercise.
Methods used:
Trend Implication Analysis
Understanding Change through Futures Triangle
Before the workshop Framtid’s foresight expert Satu Wahlberg gathered together trends related to future of work especially in the field of culture and arts.
The trends were explored on two time horizons: short-term future (1-5 years) and long-term future (up to 10 years).
In small groups workshop participants collaboratively discussed the different trends and their possible implications to the trade union work and field of culture and arts.
As an outcome all participants had a common understanding of the most relevant trend affecting the industry in near-term future as well as in the long-term future.
The workshop effectively shifted focus towards the future. The review of trends offered valuable insights into current phenomena and, more importantly, their potential future developments and impacts.
Utilizing these insights, the team of TAKU outlined a vision for the organization’s future ten years ahead – in 2034. They employed the Futures Triangle method to explore how both current and historical internal and external factors could influence the achievement of this vision
This proactive and practical foresight workshop laid a foundation for the organization’s strategic planning and firmly oriented the trade union towards future needs and opportunities.
